Chapter Thirty-One
Dean
I hated having to show Kara how to protect herself using a gun. A girl like her shouldn’t have to learn about these things, but if there’s a chance I decide to make her my old lady someday, she needs to know how to use one. Not to mention that after Natalie has the baby, we need to leave for Oregon. I can’t leave her unprotected; I would kill myself if something happened to her while Thunder and I were out of town.
Something is off with her. She wanted me to take her directly home after I handed her the gun and I haven’t seen her in two days. Now here we are the morning of the big debut she’s got going on, and I’m arguing with my brothers about who is going to go with her and the two other women as bodyguards. I can’t believe they want me to stay behind.
“You can’t be serious, Tigger. You expect me to stay behind and train the Prospect? Why today of all days? You know I won’t be able to concentrate with her out there dancing for God only knows who. I don’t know why I agreed to this. At least at The Dragon, I didn’t have to worry about her being alone in a room full of men,” I bang my fist down on the table in frustration.
“What’s the big deal? I’ll be there and so will Satch, that’s enough security for those three. Besides, the client is the principal at Briar Elementary. I highly doubt he’s going to bring people who want to harm the girls at the party,” I watch as Satch nods in agreement.
That damn traitor, he probably just wants to be alone with Kara. I know that’s what Tigger wants. It’s no secret that if I weren’t around, Tigger would have already made her an offer to be his old lady. It wasn’t enough that he had Donna chasing his tail, now he wants to go after her too.
“Look, men, let’s be honest with ourselves here. We need to put this to vote because arguing amongst ourselves isn’t going to get us anywhere. Whoever stays behind here can train Delvin,” Delvin’s the new Prospect Horse brought here. Horse isn’t a senior member, but he seemed sure Delvin would be a good fit. I’m not so sure. The other day I caught him snooping around the garage. But right now, my only concern is going with Kara on this job. Not only is this her first job, but I also have this sick feeling that she’s going to need me.
“Satch, you go first,” orders Drag.
“No, I think he should stay behind and train Delvin,” he throws a grin in my direction. He always knows how to get under my skin.
“Nay,” votes Tigger. He won’t look at me. Probably because he knows I’m glaring at him from the other side of the table.
“Yes, I think he should go,” votes Fig. I always knew I liked Fig. Probably has something to do with the fact that he doesn’t want to steal Kara out from under me.
